Brecon Museum and Library Redevelopment
Powys County Council have been awarded £2.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the redevelopment of the museum and art gallery, which will include a new library. The latest plans for the redevelopment, now called the Brecon Cultural Hub, will include a community space, café and shop, and can be viewed here. The plans include the restoration of the original Assize Court and underground cells as a visitor attraction.
Brecon Remembers World War I - The Men who Died
In the WWI Special Edition of the Old Boys’ newsletter in 2014 we included brief summaries of the Old Boys who had died in World War I. These were provided by Steve Morris who was a member of a team engaged in the task of writing a book with the above title. The task was undertaken by the Family History Group of the Brecon U3A. The book, which includes details of all the Brecon men who fell in World War I, was launched on 6th December 2016 in Brecon, and can be read on-line or downloaded from the website www.breconremembers.co.uk. This would be an excellent resource for anyone researching their ancestors who died in WWI.
2019 Old Boys’ Reunion
Our next reunion on 27th April 2019 at the Castle Hotel will be the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Old boys’ Association, and we would like to encourage Old Boys (and Old Girls) to join us for this special event. The attendance at the last reunion was our lowest ever and it is clear that the reunions will end at some time in the future. So we would ask you to contact other Old Boys to encourage them (and spouses/partners) to come in 2019. We realise that travel to Brecon can be a problem especially for those who do not drive. We are therefore asking Old Boys who would like to come but have no transport to let secretary Tom Protheroe know. We are also asking Old Boys who propose to come to the reunion whether they would be willing to offer a lift to someone in their area.
